Sustain OC presents, Smart CCA, an educational forum on Community Choice Aggregation with a focus on its business case. We anticipate a large turnout and lively discussion and, so, encourage you to register early to secure your spot. 1:30 Opening Keynote: What Is A Smart CCA?

1:50 Session #1: Community Choice: “Soup to Nuts”

Moderator: Ryan Baron,Of Counsel, Best, Best & Krieger

What is community choice aggregation? How is it regulated and why is it spreading so rapidly across California? This session will outline AB 117 and what community choice aggregation is. This session will also the regulatory background as well as the status of CCAs now operating and review how they were launched. Lastly, this session will briefly outline CCA development throughout the state and discuss necessary steps to launch a CCA.

2:10 Session #2: Pre and Post Launch Case Studies

Most existing CCAs have been operating in Northern California for several years. Many, though, have recently launched, or as in Southern California, are still in start-up mode. This session will focus on the case study of Silicon Valley Clean Energy, which is one of the most recent CCAs to successfully launch. This session will also discuss two Southern California pre-launch case studies with South Bay Clean Power and the Western Riverside Council of Governments.

3:30 Session #3: The Business Case for CCA: Challenges & Opportunities

In addition to environmental reasons, what is the business case for forming a CCA? What advantages, challenges and opportunities are there for communities, residents and businesses? This session will discuss unique “behind-the-scenes” perspectives on CCA from a business and economic perspective, including CCA finance and investment, economic development, technology and supplier issues, and perspectives from Southern California Edison on the future of utilities.

4:20 Session #4: What’s the Future of Southern California?

Moderator: Heather Stratman, CEO, ACC OC

Orange County communities are in the early stages of studying CCA. This session will discuss the current development of CCA in SoCal and where that development might take place.
