Event description

Description

Mindful and contemplative stitching is a way to engage with the textile art within us in a creative and reflective way.

I will teach some contemplation and mindful ways of being alongside the techniques and style of this movement in textiles.

We will cover reflective sketch book keeping, creating a stitch journal, a large variety of stitch techniques, colour palettes, design essentials, Japanese boro, natural dyeing and staining, ending up with a period to design, develop and create a piece of personal art.

Beginners are most welcome as well as those with experience of making textiles at what ever level.

You will need a note book pencil/pen, a variety of threads and sewing needles, embroidery hoop if you use one, embroidery pencil or tailors chalk, basic sewing kit, plain / simple base fabrics in neutral colours ... vintage is especially good and we will discuss further requirements as the course progresses .

Cross Threads in Tankerton has all you need as does Anchors Aweigh vintage in Whitstable !

There will be opportunities to work in silence as well as time for socialising over tea and cake !

PLEASE NOTE

The course runs every 2nd Sunday of the month except August or July ..I will confirm this with you 2pm-4pm

you are paying for 8 monthly sessions.

Look forward to seeing you !

I started slow stitch as a way to extend my artistic practice and experiment working with fabric and stitching. However, what started out as an experimentation of medium also resulted in a deeper contemplation of my life and self.

I was inspired by the sheer beauty of imperfections and "accidents" which resulted from some pieces, and how these would juxtapose with the structure of Sashiko. My piece contains intertwining symbols, reflections and sensory perceptions of these memorable and important events and days throughout my year; a mindful and life-affirming journey.

A beautiful comment from a recent student.
