Event description
Slow Parenting: Raising Children in a Fast World

About this Event

Childhood has come to resemble a race to perfection. Result: children and parents are frazzled and unfulfilled. But change is coming. A global movement (think Slow Education, Slow Families, Slow Parenting, Slow Kids, etc) is finding ways to give children the time and space to explore the world on their own terms, take reasonable risks, play freely, get bored, be children again.

Speaker Carl Honore returns to the Bay Area this fall. He explores this powerful drive to reinvent childhood for the 21st century, touching on themes ranging from education to technology to extracurricular activities. He shows how to strike the right balance between doing too much and doing too little for children, and how slowing down can help them reach their full potential (as well as making family life a lot more fun!).

Carl Honoré is the global guru of the fast-growing “Slow Movement”. This award- winning author, broadcaster and TED speaker travels the world teaching individuals and organizations that the best way to power forward in today’s hypercompetitive, hurry-hurry world is often the radical act of willful deceleration. Honoré’s influential works include In Praise of Slowness, The Slow Fix, Under Pressure and Bolder. Host of the podcast, The Slow Revolution, his TED talk on the benefits of resisting today’s cult of speed has been viewed by more than 3 million people.

WHAT THE WORLD MEDIA SAYS ABOUT CARL:

“An in-demand spokesman on slowness”, The Wall Street Journal

“The unofficial godfather of a growing cultural shift toward slowing down”, Huffington Post

"The godfather of the Slow Movement", ABC News
