Description

Facilitated by Alex Ryberg, Matt Ionna and Mary Belperio

This 6 week course is led by several Hive Yoga facilitators. We have so many things drawing on our time these holiday months. How about setting an intention now to be clear and rooted in your body. Join Hive facilitators for a shared experience of Ashtanga, Hatha, advanced Breathwork/Pranayama, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga. Each 2 hour class will begin with intention and end with small group discussion integrating practice to life and work. Stick around afterwards to hang out over tea, or we may even make our way next door to Urban Artifact for beers or kombucha.

This course will meet on 11/6, 11/13, 11/27, 12/4, 12/11 and 12/18 and will run between 90 and 120 minutes.

Alex Ryberg has been sharing the practice of Yin yoga in the Cincinnati community for over five years, having taught likely 100 hours or more of just yin. She studied with the best, though biased, Matt Eshelman of You Do Yoga. She is often sought out for her approach in teaching yin - very meditative, contemplative, and intelligently sequenced with breathing techniques. When not teaching at The Hive, Alex works with clients one-on-one through integrative yoga and thai yoga therapy as a SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Integrative Therapist, trains beginning SomaVeda practitioners, hosts retreats, and organizes events regularly. She loves to cook, hike, make art, and travel extensively.

Speaking up one evening at a 12-step recovery meeting about his physical trauma, multiple back surgeries and seemingly relentless chronic pain, Matt Ionna was invited to try Reiki and Yoga. It wasn't easy; the pain persisted, but so did Matt. Many nights simply surrendering to the mat, in stillness and breath, as the class continued in movement. In time he was able to retire the cane that had been necessary for mobility and start enjoying the simple things in life again. He lost the perpetual fear of oncoming pain and found serenity in the peace of the present moment. Matt is a certified Yoga teacher, regularly attends workshops, especially concerning trauma, and is continuing his training. He has three insanely wonderful children and an extraordinary wife, two dogs and a couple of cats. He believes in living a life of raw beauty and passionate purpose, cultivating integrity, staying vulnerable and humble, and sharing his gifts generously with the world.

Observing the habits of family and friends growing up Mary became interested in the benefits of healthy eating, self care, yoga and meditation as a teenager. While acquiring her BA in Studio Arts at Northern Kentucky University she took the year long, Healers Certification Program at the FourWinds Academy for the Healing Arts and Sciences; which instilled a basis of understanding in the psychosomatic workings of the mind-body-subtle energy relationships. After launching her own private practice offering energy healing and meditation sessions, she helped teach and develop programming at FourWinds while she finished her 200RYT from the Cincinnati Yoga School. Mary is a Waldorf homeschooling parent and is currently studying the philosophies of Rudolf Steiner while working on her Waldorf Teacher Training Certification through the Center for Anthroposophy.
