Sunday Supper at The Glen

Travel back in time to “Prohibition Days” when Glen St Mary was the heart of moonshine making in North East Florida. Lin and Magi Taber, owners and stewards of The Glen, will host our final Sunday Supper of the 2013 series. Put on your jeans and relax as you and your friends celebrate

Old Florida tastes and traditions at this lively SLOW Country Boil!

Drive west of Jacksonville and down a sandy, unpaved, canopied country lane that leads to the heart of The Glen, the ancestral homestead and nursery of the Taber family in Glen St. Mary, Florida. The nursery has a long history of growing beautiful shrubs, trees, and flowers for the Jacksonville area.

You may know of the prized Taber Azalea—first cultivated at The Glen in 1928 and still thriving in Northeast Florida. You will experience firsthand how this family continues to utilize the rich bounty    of the land.

On arrival you will be transported to the beautiful Linwood House for a tour. Here you will enjoy fresh oysters on the half shell for slurping, a sampling of appetizers and homemade wine. You may also watch a beater biscuit machine demonstration, andexperience a moonshine tasting in your own handmade bamboo “take-home” moonshine cup.

At The Mathis House, also part of this vast homestead, Chef Art Jeanette, Owner and Chef of Checker BBQ in Jacksonville, will prepare our authentic SLOW Country Boil with all the classic trimmings--steaming pots filled with regional shrimp and seafood, pasture-raised chicken, artisanal sausage, along with the traditional vegetables grown at the Glen, harvest salads and artisanal baked breads all from our contributing partners. Local Chef Donald Rowe will prepare fruit cobblers—baked on the open fire with The Glen’s Persimmon Cake and Lemon Blender Pie rounding out the evening.

Truly an experience to remember! Slow Food First Coast and the Taber family will connect Old Florida’s history and food traditions with true Southern hospitality, as we all savor a southern style Sunday Supper at The Glen in Glen St. Mary, Florida.

 

 Tours, Tastings, and Demonstrations begin at 1:00pm

Welcome and Dinner begins at 3:00 pm

$60.00 Non-members ticket on/before 9/30/13

$65.00 Non-Member after 9/30/13
