“SLO’s (Student Learning Objectives) in the Age of PERA”
With Jennie Winters
The era of PERA is upon us, which means that this is the year everyone must incorporate the monitoring of student growth into teacher evaluation. There are several options according to the law, but what options will best support students and teachers to grow? Illinois has allowed great flexibility in implementation, but they are clear that it must be standards-based. The experts recommend utilizing a conditional status model. This means that teachers define performance levels for chosen standards, utilize pre-assessment resources to establish baseline data regarding those standards, and set growth targets from the baseline data. A variety of type 2 and type 3 assessment instruments can be used to establish baseline and monitor growth. We will explore strategies and tools for establishing a system of assessments to monitor standards-based student growth."
