S'lichot: Preparing for the Days of Awe
Saturday, September 21
8:00 PM Concert
9:00 PM Dessert Reception/Service
You would never think to go on a vacation without packing your suitcase first. So, too, we must take time to prepare for our journey through the Days of Awe. S’lichot affords us the opportunity to pack our metaphorical bags and reflect, consider and open our hearts to the possibility of forgiveness and renewal.
We will begin the evening with a performance by the acclaimed National Chamber Ensemble featuring jazz and classical works. A dessert buffet will then precede our beautiful service of Selichot, led by all of our clergy, where we hear the first sounds of the melodies of the High Holy Days, and hear the first tekiah of the Shofar.
The National Chamber Ensemble will perform an exciting concert of great works in the classical and jazz genres for this year’s Selichot concert. The Ensemble has redefined the meaning of “chamber music” by incorporating spirituals, jazz, guitar, klezmer, opera, and more with traditional classical masterpieces. For this performance, artistic director and violinist Leonid Sushansky will be joined by piano virtuoso Carlos Cesar Rodriguez, Ephriam Wolfolk Jr. on double bass, and Leland Nakamura on drums.
