Description

S'lichot: Preparing for the Days of Awe

Saturday, September 1 at 8:00 PM

You would never think to go on a vacation without packing your suitcase first. So, too, we must take time to prepare for our journey through the Days of Awe. S’lichot affords us the opportunity to pack our metaphorical bags and reflect, consider and open our hearts to the possibility of forgiveness and renewal.

We will begin the evening with a short film and discussion. “Women in Sink,” an award-winning short film written and directed by Iris Zaki, an Israeli filmmaker, takes place in a Haifa hair salon. Owned by Fifi, an Arab Christian, with a clientele that includes Jews, Muslims and Christians, the salon is a melting pot of cultures and religions. As clients enjoy a shampoo and head massage, Zaki asks them questions about their lives and the current political situation. While the ladies come from different backgrounds and generations, they all respond with stories that are tough, wise and often hope-filled. The film’s message is a timely one – the further we’re removed from politics, the easier it gets to live together.

A dessert buffet will then precede our beautiful service that includes penitential prayers and moving meditations.
