SLE Self Help (SLESH) Leader Training
Interested in becoming a Lupus Self-Help Course Leader? In order for our organization to bring this program to more communities, your assistance is greatly needed! Course leaders will receive a stipend for each community course lead and will be reimbursed for any expenses that may be incurred as a result of your travel.
The Lupus Self-Help Course is a five week education program designed to teach people with lupus how to take a more active part in their health care. Each weekly session is approximately 2 ½ hours, and is facilitated by a minimum of two trained leaders. (The content of this course cannot be changed; however, the leaders determine the dates and time that the course is offered in the community.) At least one member of this team must have lupus. Ideally, each team should have three leaders.
As our goal is to expand the availability of the Lupus Self-Help Course to more counties in PA, DE and southern NJ, a hotel room for Friday evening will be provided for approved candidates traveling more than 30 miles to participate.
All leader candidates are required to attend BOTH sessions of the Leader Training Workshop conducted over the 2 days. Part of the training will include a “teach back” session lasting for approximately 10 minutes. The purpose of this is two-fold. First, the trainers can review your group-facilitating methods and presentation of materials assigned. Second, you, the leader candidate can evaluate yourself to see if you will feel comfortable as a leader.
