Event description
Slant'd Issue 03 Launch Party [Los Angeles]

About this Event

Come eat, drink, and hang with the Slant'd family as we celebrate the launch of Issue 03: TABOO! Mingle with our vibrant community of AAPIs and allies, bask in the performances of local artists & creatives, and share a story about your own taboos.

After our performers take the stage, we're opening up the floor to YOU. What taboos are you grappling with as an Asian American? If you have a story, we'd love for you to share it during our story slam. This is a safe space for you to get vulnerable, connect with the vibrant humans around you, and find freedom in self-awareness.

About our performers:

Jenevieve Ting: Jenevieve Ting is a queer, non-binary second generation Asian American poet, writer, artist, Libra and world-builder. They are the co-editor and founder of Loves Me | Loves Me Not, a yearly Valentine's Day zine featuring work entirely by queer, trans, non-binary and women artists of color, and they've performed at various performance venues across LA and the Bay Area, including Tuesday Night Cafe, Our Mic, Junior High, The Hotel Cafe, the Upright Citizens Brigade, Human Resources LA, Highways Performance Space and Sabbatical Studio. You can find them in the ether at @tingrolls.

Vivian Moon: Vivian Moon is a published writer and spoken word poet based in southern California. She enjoys a good challenge like contemplating her purpose and questioning the majority vote while encouraging moderation in moderation. You can learn more about Vivian and her work on vivmoon.com.

Jensen Reyes: Jensen Reyes (he/they/she) is a second generation Filipinx American multidisciplinary artist and community organizer from the Carolinas barrio of San Juan Capistrano, California. Drawing from their experiences as a queer working class Filipinx American, as well as their involvement in numerous Fil-Am organizations, Jensen has performed in spaces like Sunday Jump, Recess Mic, and Tuesday Night Café. You may have seen them in a BuzzFeed video, or at HMart trying to resist buying chips and then buying chips. You may find them on all social medias @jensen_hari or on their YouTube channel here.

DJ Mish: Now residing in Los Angeles, DJ Mish was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. She enjoys music ranging from Hip-hop, Nu Disco, Trap, to Jersey Club and even Dancehall. Her favorite music genres are Hip-hop, RnB, NeoSoul, and Trap, which have become her signature sounds as a DJ. You can listen to her music on Soundcloud.

Issue 03 will also be available for purchase. It features personal essays, poetry, and art from 20 #badasians all over the U.S. and covers topics from self-pleasure, drugs, grief, intergenerational trauma and more —stories that ultimately celebrate the freedom that comes from challenging long-held beliefs about who we are and how we came to be.

Can't make it but want to help us make magic? Our kickstarter is currently LIVE! Help us raise $25,000 by November 12th so that we can put on more kickass events like this.
