For the first time ever...

The 2018 Individual Poetry Slam Champion, Michael Ting, will be squaring off against the 2018 Texas Grand Slam Champion, Black Chakra, LIVE in Houston, Texas. Don't miss this matchup as these two face off to determine who is the world's best slam poet.

Michael Ting:

Michael “Mic” Ting is a Bay Area native who’s work can more or less be found by googling Mic Ting or scrolling through his mom’s timeline. He once ate 52 wontons in one sitting and will fight you if you try to tell him how to eat his soup dumplings. His poetry navigates topics of race, assimilation, family, loss, and evolution through honest storytelling and emotional upheaval. He has been a part of three National Poetry Slam teams and in 2016 his team, Palo Alto, took 2nd at Group Piece Finals. Mic is also the reigning 2018 Individual World Poetry Slam champion and co-produces a poetry and improv show called The Bridge.

Black Chakra:

Black Chakra is a spoken word and hip-hop artist whose talents have been showcased on stages across America. In his time competing in poetry slam competitions he has been a national poetry slam champion, Texas Grand Slam champion, Southern Fried slam champion any plethora of others too long to list. Black Chakra embodies the city of Baltimore through aggressive performance an incredible writing. Next to being the talented writer that he is what he takes most pride in is being a youth poetry teacher for Dewmore Baltimore.
