Skyline International Film Festival
Fri, May 19, 2017, 6:00 PM – Sun, May 21, 2017, 9:00 PM EDT
The Skyline International Film Festival is a three-day, student-run film and game festival hosted by the University of North Georgia on its Gainesville campus. Skyline is designed to be both a community-uniting cultural event and an educational opportunity. Attendees get to see independent films from around the world and learn from industry experts through panels and workshops. Filmmakers get to showcase their work and build relationships. Students who contribute to hosting the event develop a wide range of leadership and organizational skills. Skyline also helps to increase the visibility of the University, the Communication, Media & Journalism Department, and the north Georgia film community.
We plan to jump-start the weekend with a Kick-Off Party on Friday, May 19th to boost excitement for the festival while uniting the community and providing networking opportunities. We hope to have food trucks, games, and “sneak peaks” of the festival to show what we have to offer for the upcoming weekend.
On Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st we will have several blocks of films, as well as workshops and panels. We will also have a game room where all festival pass holders will be able to enjoy anything from tabletop games to the latest gaming consoles. Our panels for the weekend will discuss topics such as animation, television, documentaries, crowdfunding, and editing. We will also have a panel dedicated to navigating the film festival scene, which will consist of representatives from festivals throughout Georgia.
We are still booking panelists, but we have received confirmation from Erica Anderson from Seed & Spark, Drew Sawyer from Moonshine Post, Charles Judson from TERMINUS, Deontae Trundle from Indie Film Loop, Terrell Sandefur from Macon Film Festival, and Seth Ingram from the Rome International Film Festival.
On Saturday evening, we will continue the festivities with an After Party at Left Nut Brewing Co. which is located near the UNG-Gainesville Campus. Left Nut Brewing Co. brews and serves craft beer and cider of all styles, as well as offers tours of the facility and LNB souvenir glasses.
Our film blocks for the weekend will include US & International Student Shorts, Animated Shorts, Narrative Shorts, Documentary Shorts, Music Videos and UNG Student Films. We will also be highlighting one feature documentary on Saturday and a feature narrative film on Sunday. Currently, we have over 3,000 submissions and with this being a student-run film festival, we have student volunteers working around the clock to make this festival great. The Skyline International Film Festival has big plans for this year and years to come.
