Event description
Guided tour of a Victorian time capsule house, containing the lives and possessions of three generations of a prominent Brunswick family.

About this event

One-hour guided tour of the Skolfield-Whittier House, a Pejepscot History Center Museum, located at 161 Park Row, Brunswick, Maine.

The Skolfield-Whittier House was home to three generations of a prominent Brunswick family with careers in seafaring, medicine, and education. Closed and unheated for sixty years, the house remains in many ways as it was in 1925 when it was last occupied full-time. It has everything from the receipts used in the house’s construction in the 1850s to the 1920s spices in the kitchen pantry.

However, since 2015, restoration work has been ongoing in the house to repair cracks and fallen plaster, sand and paint peeling walls, sand and stain floors, clean carpets, and clean or create reproduction window treatments. The house’s seventeen rooms are viewed during guided tours with knowledgeable docents who provide an unparalleled glimpse into nineteenth-century upper middle class life in Maine. Truly a hidden gem!
