Preparing Families for Placement

This session will focus on preparing adoptive families for placement, including the placement of older children and children from foster care. The impact of the Core Clinical themes in adoption will also be addressed.

Paula C. Davis, LCSW, BACS, is the Clinical Director for the Maternity, Adoption, & Behavioral Health Department of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Paula has more than 18 years of domestic and international adoption experience working with all members of the triad. In 2008, she completed the Hunter College Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Adoption Competence.

Adoption Myths & Thoughtful Adoption Language

This session will debunk common myths surrounding adoption and shed light on current adoption practice. Thoughtful adoption language will be discussed as well as how attitudes and perceptions of adoption can impact the words we use when talking about adoption.

Stephanie K. Sterling, MSW, LCSW is the Department Director of Maternity, Adoption, & Behavioral Health Services at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. She holds a 90-hour postgraduate certification in Adoption and Foster Care Competence

Stephanie serves on the Governor’s Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board, the Children’s Code Adoption Subcommittee, and is Vice Chair of the Catholic Charities USA Child Youth and Family Services Steering Committee.

Talking With Children About Adoption

This session will focus on the importance of family conversations about adoption, and how parents can create a safe environment to talk with children throughout their journey.

Lori DeBenedetto-Webb, MSW, LCSW, has more than 18 years of adoption experience that includes providing adoption-related services to all members of the adoption triad. She holds a post-graduate certificate in Adoption Competence. Lori and her husband are adoptive parents to three children.

The Importance of Keeping Connections with Birth Families

This session will discuss the importance of creating and fostering relationships between children and their birth families. We will discuss ways that these connections can benefit all parties, especially the child.

Lori Arceneaux, LCSW, BACS, is the Adoption Program Manager with Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans. She holds a post-masters certification in adoption competency. Lori has over 13 years of experience in the field of adoption. She is the adoptive mother of a daughter.

3:30pm – 4:30pm:

Panel Discussion and Question & Answer Session

Lori Arceneaux:Facilitator

This session will consist of an adopted person, a birth parent, and an adoptive parent. Each member of the triad will discuss ways they feel professionals can best help those touched by adoption based on their personal experience with adoption.

4:30pm: Adjourn & Issuing of CEU Certificates
