Sketching and Watercolors - January 2026
Overview
Every realistic painting benefits from laying down a solid sketch. We will explore how to map out a composition, break down objects through drawing, and plan how to paint a full scene. We will cover the basics of watercolor techniques and discuss how to depict light and depth. All materials are supplied but you are welcome to bring your own paints if you are more comfortable with your palette.
- First day (January 21): focus on how to sketch objects and play with basic watercolor techniques.
- Second day (January 28): in-depth tutorials on painting objects and composing a scene, resulting in a final painting.
About the instructor: Audrey Parker is an art teacher who loves to teach paper craft and painting. Her artistic practice revolves around creating realistic paper flowers, as well as watercolor paintings with elements of paper sculpture, focusing primarily on nature and our connection to it. She graduated from MECA in 2021 with a Masters in Art Education, and in 2019 with a B.F.A. in Painting and a minor in Art History. Growing up in rural Maine, Audrey has a deep connection to the natural landscape around us.
