More often than not, violence prevention can illicit assumptions of xenophobia, identity driven gun ownership, zealous movie plots, and other symptoms of a toxic self defense culture that has traditionally repelled BIPOC and queer folx.
Approaching the topic of violence prevention at a structured but elective pace, keeping our most vulnerable communities in mind, seems to be the way we can present this knowledge in a way that doesn't replicate the toxic culture we've all become wary of. That however will not keep us from ensuring the content remains practical, concise, and relevant to modern threats.
Subject matter experts will join throughout the series, with attendance capped at 35 seats per class to ensure all the participants have a chance to be heard during the discussion and Q&A.
Recordings will be available for students who can't attend the live class, be sure to specify the "Class Recording" ticket upon registration.
Money collected will be directly applied to Marc-Manuel's cost of living GoFundMe fundraiser as an offline donation line item. You can see the current progress on the website here: gf.me/u/zgcsnq
If fundraising needs to be pivoted to legal fundraising, we will specify that in the individual class(es).
