Event description

Description

The QCA ArtHotel Residency is for Queens-based artists of all disciplines. We will start the tour at the Z NYC Hotel at 10:30 AM and then arrive at the Paper Hotel at 11:15 AM.

Transportation to Z NYC Hotel: 7, N, Q to Queensboro Plaza OR E, M, R to Queens Plaza.

The Asian American Arts Alliance has launched a pilot program for emerging and mid-career visual artists. A series of 1-hour site visits for residencies and exhibitions have been curated for the fall/winter season. Visits to artist workspaces and residencies are administered prior to application deadlines and the tour given by the on-site studio programming staff. At the end of the guided tour, there will be a Q&A session between the studio staff and attendees. For Site Visit #8, the Alliance is excited to be exploring the QCA ArtHotel Residency, a new program of QCA, Queens Art Fund in partnership with The Paper Factory Hotel and the Z NYC Hotel.

Past Site Visits include Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA), Socrates Sculpture Park, Times Square Arts, One Art Space and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC).

About the Residency

ArtHotel Residency is not a traditional residency where the artists work isolation, but a residency where artists have a space to create their work while also having an opportunity to share her/his process with the public.

ArtHotel artist residency program has been established to offer 2 Queens-based artists, a $3,000 stipend each, for a 3-month period of time to work outside of their traditional environment and daily life. The artist will not live on-site. Artists of any discipline may apply. As the organizer of this residency, QCA’s view is that artists are creative and valuable community members who are often experts at creative problem solving and encouraging neighbors to interact, in addition to being specialists who make works of art.

The deadline for this residency is March 1, 2017.

Queens Council on the Arts
