Description
Featuring choreography, direction and an original score by internationally renowned kathak master Pandit Chitresh Das, Sita Haran is a dramatic staging of one of the most popular and widely told stories from India’s great text, The Rāmāyana. With an international all-female cast of dancers, Pandit Chitresh Das retells this timeless story in the dynamic Kathak style with compelling abhinaya (expression), movement, music and rhythm. Delving deeply into the characters with a unique contemporary perspective, Sita Haran sheds new light onto this story of greed, lust, distraction and divine intervention.
This presentation of Sita Haran was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and additional funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
