Join us on Saturday, September 23, 2017 for a fun and informative day, where you'll learn about various aspects of criminal investigation from four amazing speakers:


Our keynote speaker and M/C for the day is author Andrew Welsh-Huggins, a reporter with the Associated Press in Columbus, Ohio, where he covers the death penalty, crime and courts, the Statehouse and long-lived zoo animals. He is the author of nonfiction books about the death penalty and domestic terrorism, along with four Andy Hayes mysteries. Booklist called his latest novel, The Hunt, “a fine procedural based on human trafficking.”

Peter C. Tobin - U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio. Marshal Tobin has been involved with law enforcement for more than four decades, serving as Superintendent of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Narcotics Division Chief at the Bureau, he has served twice as Chief of Police. For the first 24 years of his career, he held multiple positions within the Columbus Police Department. In his storied career Marshal Tobin took decisive action during seven armed robberies in progress. He captured 2 separate serial rapists. He participated in hundreds hostage barricades, hundreds of narcotics and fugitive apprehension high risk entries and several riots. During his career Marshal Tobin has made well over a thousand felony arrests.

Gary S. Wilgus - Special Agent Supervisor of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Forensic Underwater Dive Team. Special Agent Wilgus is certified as a Master Evidence Technician, a Crime Scene Reconstructionist, a Bloodstain Pattern Examiner and an Underwater Criminal Investigator as well as a Master Diver. He has been involved in numerous Ohio serial killer cases including: Gregory McKnight (Vinton County, Ohio), Christian Stephen Fuhr (Franklin County, Ohio), Gerald R. Hand (Delaware County, Ohio), Darryl Walters (Adams County, Ohio). As well as numerous mass killing cases including: Matthew Hoffman (Knox County, Ohio), Randle L Roberts (Adams County, Ohio), Rhoden Family (Pike County, Ohio).

Mitchell Seckman - Detective with the Columbus Metropolitan Police. Detective Seckman has 24 years of service with the Columbus Division of Police. His service includes 8 years working in the Strategic Response Bureau Enforcement Section, which is a covert unit that focuses on the street crimes such as narcotics and prostitution. Detective Seckman has spent 12 years in the Criminal Intelligence Unit. He has worked in the field of domestic terrorism, as part of the Columbus Police’s Homeland Security mission, focusing on white supremacist, anarchist, and anti-government groups. Detective Seckman has worked numerous cases with street gangs, ethnic organized crime, even posing as an undercover “Hit man”. The last 3 years he has been a member of the FBI’s Columbus Metro Violent Criminal Task Force where he was a case officer on the Short North Posse racketeering case. With 14 murders the case is the largest homicide racketeering case in Ohio history, and one of the largest in the country.



During the day we will provide a continental breakfast, lunch, drinks and at the end of the day a reception with refreshments where you will get to talk with our speakers and mingle with other guests. We will also be giving out doorprizes throughout the day and have some fantastic items you can win.

It is sure to be a day filled with interesting stories and behind-the-scenes glimpes into the world of police work and investigation. Events like this don't come along often. Be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible as seating is limited!
