Description

The Sister Warriors Convening

Building a movement of formerly incarcerated and system involved women and girls!

The Sister Warriors Convening is an intentional space for cis and trans women and girls who have been formerly incarcerated and otherwise impacted by the System**. The Sister Warriors Convening is an opportunity for us to talk about the issues that are most important to us, to develop strategies for our voices to be heard, and to learn meaningful skills from each other in a comfortable environment. Our experiences and expertise are needed in the fight to dismantle these systems that have harmed us. Let’s build with each other as we lead the way!

Together we can lead the radical transformation necessary to stop the pain and hurt in our communities. We know, personally, just how much harm and hurt these systems can cause in our lives and in the lives of our families and communities. Collectively, our knowledge and experiences are powerful enough to bring these systems crashing down.

This work will take time. This work will take building beloved community together and tireless organizing. We wouldn’t choose anyone else to do it with but fierce formerly incarcerated and system-involved women and girls.

Please join us as we kick off this work at the one-day Sister Warriors Convening in the Bay Area. We will come together to radically rethink how we approach systems transformation work and to build a powerful base of formerly incarcerated and system involved women and girls leading this work in California.

*This is an intergenerational space centering the voices and experiences of young cis and trans women who are formerly incarcerated and system involved. This is a space primarily for cis and trans women, gender non-conforming and gender fluid people.

**For the purpose of this invitation, we define ‘formerly incarcerated and system involved’ as having experienced incarceration and/or life on the streets. Additionally, having been impacted by systems including ICE/Immigration, Foster care, Child Protective Services (CPS), Probation, Public Housing, Welfare, etcetera, are included in the invitation to attend.

More updates to come about the dynamic speakers we have confirmed for the convening! Check back for details about the phenomenal women who will inspire and encourage us on the day of the Convening as the date approaches.
