Event description

Description

Sister District has launched a Get Out The Vote postcard writing campaign, and we want to pitch in! Sunday, Oct. 29th, any time from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, join us for a postcard writing house party. You will be writing personalized cards to folks who took the time to speak with a canvasser for Mike Mullin, one of our Sister Race candidates, thanking them for their time and reminding them to vote on November 7th. These postcards are a big hit in this district, and Virginia needs Mike Mullin to get re-elected.

Local Seattle artists have donated postcards, and we will have pens, talking points, stamps, and light refreshments on hand (hot apple cider and maybe some two buck chuck is the current plan).

This is a kid friendly event! We'll have blank postcards and colored pencils if anyone want to help us create some postcards, and if your kid is old enough, we'll put them to work writing cards. Kids are cute. We have no shame.

Please RSPV so we know how many addresses to ask for (we're figuring 5-10 per participant). We'll be in Apartment A, and there'll be a sign on the door directing you up. There is plenty of street parking on the block. Unfortunately, and we really do apologize for this, our apartment is up a flight of stairs, so not the most accessible for folks in wheelchairs.

About Mike Mullin:

Mike first fell in love with the Newport News area as a 17-year-old college freshman at Christopher Newport University. He is a criminal prosecutor and lives with his wife and three young boys in Kiln Creek. They are also are active long-time members of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Newport News.

Mike is the current delegate representing the 93rd district, having beat his Republican opponent by 7% in a special election in 2016. However, Virginia has a historically low voter turnout for non-presidential elections. And, Mike’s opponent works with seniors professionally, a group that statistically shows up to vote in higher numbers. We need to rally Mike’s supporters to get to the polls as well. Both candidates have said education, transportation and improving the job market are priorities. Voters will be deciding who they believe will be most effective in these areas.
