About this Event

“Sips and Sounds ™ AARP’s Night of Jazz Celebrating Family Caregivers featuring Regina Belle, Marcus Johnson and Richmond’s Own QuintEssential Jazz”

The P&G Foundation of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. and the Phi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi have collaborated with AARP’s Virginia State Office to provide a unique ‘fun with purpose’ evening of jazz, networking and celebration of family to raise funds for the P&G Foundation’s Annual Youth Scholarship for higher education.

This year, during Family Caregivers Awareness Month, AARP is proud to present, Regina Belle, Academy Award-winning and Multi Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and actress who has made a career following her heart and moving gracefully between the worlds of R&B, Gospel and Jazz.

Ms. Belle is an entertainer of immeasurable musical talent. This New Jersey native has earned distinction as an international treasure. Her luminous vocals on the Peabo Bryson duet, A Whole New World, (Grammy’s Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 1994) solidified her place as music royalty.

Her life has been eventful, journey purposeful but not without misfortune. After releasing her first Gospel album in 2008, Love Forever Shines with the hit single God Is Good she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. This devastating news came at the height of her gospel career. After two surgeries and 10 months rehabilitation, Belle found herself back at the top of her game ready to take on the world.

Belle’s life experiences and health challenges have made her a champion in area of caregiving, affording her opportunities to wear different hats. She is honored to represent AARP as a spokesperson for family caregivers, especially during November, Family Caregiving Month.

AARP Virginia is also proud of its ongoing collaboration with featured jazz musician, entrepreneur, and Washington, DC native Marcus Johnson and his ensemble.

Marcus Johnson has worked with AARP to deliver its “Disrupt Aging” messaging, to ensure that people of all ages know that you can join AARP at any age! And more importantly follow your dreams and re-invent your second or third careers well into retirement.

The jazz group provide entertainment with original music from Johnson's vast repertoire plus some unique stylings of familiar R&B tunes.

Richmond’s own The silky Jazz sounds of ‘QuintEssential Jazz’ are sure to put you in a good mood. Often featured during the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Jazz Cafes, Jazz, Funk, Soul & Gospel with William Prentiss on flute/tenor Sax; Chris Moseley on trumpet/flugelhorn; Sam Craddock on bass; Eron Gray on drums; Hannon Lane on guitar; Keith Henderson on percussion; and Keith Wallace on keyboard.
