#KEEPINGTHEFAITH - In recognition of #GivingTuesday, It was 1 week ago Today that we just received the shocking news that our longtime #Mentor, #Friend and #Advisor, #DrJoeWhite, #ProfessorEmeritus of University of California, Irvine and most known as the #GodFatherofBlackPsychology and #GuruofMentoring who has dedicated his life to #GivingBack unexpectedly passed away on the way to visit his daughters in #Missouri for #Thanksgiving...Much #Love, #Thoughts and #Prayers go out to his beloved daughters, #Lori, #Lynn, and #Lisa and his amazing wife of over #45Years, #Lois and the rest of his #Family- #DrJoeWhite was to turn #85YearsYoungnext month on #December19th...

Our Founder met #DrJoeWhite straight out of high school while still in #Minnesota managing a #MentoringProgram at the University of Minnesota where they both grew up and #DrJoeWhite has continuously #Inspired and #Motivated her throughout her life over all these years where they also shared ties to #SanFranciscoBayAreaand now #LosAngelesArea / #SouthernCalifornia...She would always tell him that she promises that she wasn't stocking him (smile)!!

It has been a wonderful journey with him as he has been so instrumental in with our foundation with our core initiative focusing on #Mentoring through Mixed Roots Foundation where we had the honor to celebrate his #Life and #Legacy while he was still living by establishing the #DreamtoSucceedFund which currently hosts the #DrJoeWhitePioneeringtheWayMentoringScholarship in which we launched at our #InauguralMentorNight with the Los Angeles Lakers and our #5YearAnniversary Los Angeles Dodgers #4thAnnual #AdopteeNight events in 2016.

With that, We look forward to continuing to #Celebrate and #Honor #DrJoeWhite's #Life and #Legacy now and #Forever...Through his #Mentoring scholarship that will #Inspire and #Connect the #NextGeneration through #Education.

After #DrJoeWhite's #MemorialServices to take place in early #December - With his #Family's #Blessing, To start, we will be hosting a special #HolidayFundraiser that will be hosted by Hannah An, #Owner and #Chef of The District by Hannah An here in #LA that will not only celebrate everyone's #Birthdays, but we will also #RaiseFunds for #DrJoeWhite's #Mentoring Scholarship with a goal of $8,500 in honor of #DrJoeWhite's #85thBirthday...#PleaseStayTuned for more details coming soon as well as announcements for upcoming events in #SanFrancisco and #Minneapolis- We hope that these special events will provide a space for the #Holidays to celebrate #Life and Be reminded to #Embrace your #LovedOnes and #MakeADifference in other lives just as #DrJoeWhite has done for so many others for generations and generations to come!!!

As #DrJoeWhite would always say to our Founder, "You will always land on your feet...as long as you #StayStrong, #KeeptheFaith and #KeepOnKeepingOn"!! #DrJoeWhite, You will be dearly missed, but You will continue to live on in all of our hearts and in the work we all have been called to do!!!

ABOUT DR. JOSEPH L. WHITE
Known as the “godfather of black psychology and the guru of mentoring,” Dr. White was born in 1932 in Lincoln, Nebraska and later moved and grew up in Minneapolis, MN and San Francisco, CA. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in psychology from San Francisco State University and his PhD in clinical psychology from Michigan State University.

Dr. White spent most of his career at the University of California at Irvine, but held various titles at different locations around the United States, such as researcher, professor, dean, clinician, mentor, and consultant. While at the California State University at Long Beach, he was instrumental in establishing the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which has provided “educational access and opportunity for more than 250,000 low-income and educationally disadvantaged students throughout California, the majority of whom are first-generation college students.” Dr. White contributed to the success of many students of color and worked as an advocate to reform the education system.

He was one of the founders of the Association of Black Psychologists in 1968, and in 1970, he wrote an article in Ebony magazine that helped alter the perception of black psychology. The article brought to light the unique differences of how ethnic minorities should be treated and understood in psychology. Dr. White was the recipient of many prestigious awards including the Citation of Achievement in Psychology and Community Service from President Clinton in 1994, the honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Minnesota in 2007, and Alumnus of the Year from San Francisco State University in 2008. Dr. White also served as a trustee with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Dr. White was currently working on his next book focused on mentoring that is due to come out in 2018. Through Mixed Roots Foundation’s Dream to Succeed Fund, the Dr. Joseph L. White Pioneering the Way Mentoring Scholarship will inspire high school and college students to continue Dr. White’s legacy of mentoring as well as connect them to their dreams and educational goals. Our goal is to award (3) Individual scholarships and (1) Organization grant within our (3) target cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Minneapolis - All cities that Dr. White had a significant impact and legacy. Please stay tuned on more details on how to apply and how the funds will be distributed in 2018.
