SO WHAT'S THIS I HEAR ABOUT A FESTIVAL?
The 1st annual Sioux Falls Sno Jam Comedy Festival will take place in Sioux Falls, SD, February 16th-18th, 2017. This event will be for comedians from around the globe to get together, have a great time in the snow, network, and showcase their talent all while supporting a local non profit (TBD).
WHERE IS SOUTH DAKOTA?
It's in America’s heartland just south of North Dakota.
A FESTIVAL DURING THE WINTER?
Yes, what better way to celebrate winter time in South Dakota than staying inside to watch comedy!
HOW COLD WILL IT BE?
Colder than a witch's tit! It really depends on if its a mild winter. With windsheild factors it can get way below zero.
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH SUBMISSIONS?
We are accepting submissions from all comedians who would like to attend this years festival. We are looking for working professional comedians in the industry, hardcore road dawgs, and newer comics that are on the scene. The goal of this festival is to bring great comics together in order to create an amazing opportunity to celebrate laughing & snow. A committee panel will review and select the successful candidates. All comedians from around the world are invited for consideration in making the line-up for the Sioux Falls Sno Jam Comedy Festival.
ARE TRAVEL EXPENSES COVERED?
No, if you are selected to perform you are responsible for your own travel expenses to and from the festival.
WILL ACCOMMODATION BE PROVIDED?
YES, a hotel room will be provided for all comedians who are selected to participate in the festival, not your friends or partner, just you the comedian. You will be sharing the room with another comedian. If you do not want to share a room, and/or are bringing a significant other to the festival, you must get your own room at your own expense.
WILL FOOD AND DRINK BE PROVIDED?
YES, food and drink is provided throughout the weekend during the shows. We will also have discounts worked out with all the venues on food, so if you don't like what we are offering, grab something else with discounts ranging from 20-50%. Just show them your "Comedian Pass."
IS THIS A CONTEST?
No, this is not a contest.
IF THIS ISN'T A CONTEST, WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
Well there are several things. First, bragging rights. If selected to perform you will be making history as this is our first of many annual festivals. Second, you will have the chance to network with other comedians from across the country. Third, you will get to expand your market as you will be performing in multiple shows for new audiences. Fourth, you get that warm fuzzy feeling of helping raise money for a great cause. I could keep going, but I think by now you get the point!
EVERYONE THINKS I'M FUNNY, HOW DO I SUBMIT?
Submitting for the festival is as follows; complete a submission form and include a YouTUBE or Vimeo link of a video 5 minutes of material in length preferably from one continuous set. If you have a club recommendation please include it, all recommendations will be verified.
DO YOU BOOK ANY COMEDIANS FOR THE FESTIVAL?
YES, we book a few comedians. Please do not ask for a booked spot, they have already been allocated. The easiest way to be part of the festival is to submit.
I HAVE A KILLER HOUR, CAN I SEND A LINK OF THAT?
SURE, but we're not going to watch more than 5 minutes. After that, we are on to the next submission. It is best to have the video start with you. We do not need to see the M.C. introduce you, remember it is only a 5 minute video.
IF I GET SELECTED TO PERFORM, HOW MANY SHOWCASES DO I GET?
Two, each comic will get two showcase shows with 8 minute sets at each show. One showcase will be a regular standup showcase and the other will be a themed showcase (e.g. setlist, storyteller, etc.).
DO I GET TO CHOOSE MY THEMED SHOWCASE?
Not exactly. You will get to give us your preference and we will do our best to accommodate.
WILL THERE BE ANY INDUSTRY AT THE FESTIVAL?
As much as we’d like to say yes, we can’t make any promises. Most likely there will be some regional industry. This is our first year and instead of spending money to bring industry we’d rather spend the money paying for lodging for the comedians.
HOW MUCH WILL THIS SET ME BACK?
Twenty American Dollars ($20) and that’s it. That’s right, the fees do not go up as the deadline for submissions get closer
WHEN IS THE CUTOFF?
The festival submission deadline is Thursday December 15th, 2016..
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES OF BEING CHOSEN TO PARTICIPATE?
Participation is contingent upon the total number of eligible submissions received.
I ALREADY KNOW I MADE THE CUT, WHEN WILL EVERYONE ELSE FIND OUT?
The line up for the festival will be announced on January 01, 2017. Only comedians that made the festival line-up will be notified by email.
WHAT IF YOU DON’T PICK ME? DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?
Sorry, all submission fees are nonrefundable. Work on your video, and resubmit for next year!
DO I GET FULL ENTRY INTO ALL THE SHOWS?
Well, sort of. There will be a PASS for you when you check in. This will enable you to enter any shows, as long as there's space. TICKET HOLDERS GET PRIORITY!
