Event description

Description

Walk through a multicultural haven of sights and sounds during The Vancouver Police Museum’s newest tour: Soul Food and Shotguns. This 90-minute Vancouver walking tour takes you through famed neighbourhoods that fostered Vancouver's growing African-Canadian and Italian communities—two influential groups that spurred important social change and diversity initiatives throughout the province. Learn about Jimmy Hendrix's strong connection to Vancouver and Hogan's Alley, and about the city's strong-willed Militant Mothers who fought for the safety of their children in the same area. Hear tales of deadly shotgun fights, and learn about the prominent lawyers and activists who sought to end the unfair discriminatory practices against immigrants, the poor, and African Canadians. Set in the historic area of Strathcona, this tour highlights Vancouver's cultural history, people and stories that helped the city diversify and flourish. Tours include free admission to all Vancouver Police Museum exhibits.
