Event description

Description

Presented by the Counseling & Education Center (CEC) and St. Mary's Medical Center

We are excited to welcome Boston-based Meg Hutchinson as the Presenter/Performer for our CEC Annual Event, Singing My Way Through.

Hutchinson's presentation will combine stories of her personal journey with live performances of her original music. She will talk about the onset of her bipolar disorder and its effects on her life and creativity, as well as her eventual breakown, hospitalization, diagnosis and treatment. As she highlights suicide prevention through her lived experiences, Hutchinson will discuss the challenges and importance of family and social support, the lifestyle changes that have been vital to her recovery, and the way that her illness inspired deep transformation and greater wellness.

She began writing songs as a teenager, when her struggles with early symptoms of bipolar disoder began. In the years since, Hutchinson has released nine albums and become a nationally touring artist. Poetry and music were her primary coping mechanisms for years, and creativity remains central to her healing process. She has won numerous songwriting awards in the US, Ireland and the UK. Her songs can be found on Spotify and Amazon, and her new album is titled How Many Miles.

Hutchinson has been featured on NPR, in national articles, interviews and podcasts, and in the documentary film, Pack Up Your Sorrows: A Story of Ilness, Hope and Transformation. She is frequently asked to be a keynote speaker at conferences, universities, and teaching hospitals around the country.

Two presentation times are offered on Friday, September 6th: 10-11:30 am OR 1:30-3:00 pm. Click on the "Select A Time" button above to register for the session you prefer.

All proceeds will support the low-income counseling services of the Counseling and Education Center (CEC). We offer professional, affordable counseling for Mesa County's children, teens, adults and families.

CEC is immensely grateful to these sponsors who are supporting this event to help and inspire our community!
