Scaffolding­­ Language ­­Engagement­­ Data: Using the SLED framework to supporting the success of ELLs in schools.

Workshop Descriptor

The Scaffolding­­ Language­­ Engagement­­ Data (SLED) framework provides schools with a simple framework to meaningfully connect ELLs to rich content and concepts to support their success in mainstream classrooms. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the SLED framework and they will learn strategies to implement each of its 4 key components. Participants will leave with useful tools they can implement with immediate effect.


Participants will:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the needs of ELLs within their classes

  • Understand the 4 key components of the SLED framework

  • Learn a range of SCAFFOLDING techniques to support ELLs to access

    the learning within their classes

  • Learn LANGUAGE development principles that support ELLs to learn

    and effectively use the target language within their classes

  • Learn evidence­ based practices to create high levels of ENGAGEMENT within their classes

  • Learn how to collect and use DATA to inform instructional decisions and move learning forward within their classes

  • Develop a toolbox of strategies to use within their classes


Audience

This workshop is suitable for educators working with English Language Learners. This includes classroom teachers, single subject teachers, ELL specialists and school leaders K­12.


Workshop Leader: Tina Santilli

Tina is currently the Secondary Principal at Vientiane International School following prior experiences as a teacher, leader and learner in a wide range of international schools throughout the world, including posts in China, Thailand, Qatar, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Tanzania.

Having held leadership and teaching roles across all age levels in the areas of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English Language Learners (ELL), Tina is committed to ensuring all learners in international schools have access to rich curriculum and effective instruction to support their success. She regularly delivers workshops for classroom and subject teachers, SEN specialists and ELL specialists. In addition, she continues to work as a consultant for policy and program development.

Tina is originally from the United States. She earned her B.A. In North Carolina and her M.A. in Washington, DC and hopes to complete her doctorate sometime in the near future. Prior to moving overseas, Tina was a faculty member at the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Workshop Registration Fee

Early Bird Fee: US$300.00

Registration fee after the 28 January 2018: US$330.00

Registration fee after the 28 March 2018: US$360.00

Cancellation Policy

Please note that each workshop will proceed based on participant registration. Innovative Global Education will inform you by March 27 2018 if the workshop is to be cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled your full payment will be reimbursed.

Workshop Participation

If Innovative Global Education is informed by March 27 2018, that a participant is unable to attend the workshop, a full refund will be given. If notification of not being able to participate is after March 27 2018, IGE will be unable to refund the registration fee.


If, for any reason, a school needs to either transfer a registered participant to another workshop from the workshop registered or change the name of the participant attending a workshop, Innovative Global Education can make these changes on request from the school or participant.
