Event description

Workshop Descriptor:

‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ Margaret Mead

Are you in an educational setting that is currently engaged in or about to begin a process of dynamic change? Are you reimagining pedagogy, reflecting on practices, or redesigning your learning environments? Leading transformational change can be messy, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. In this workshop participants will engage with a big (or small) vision for change, embracing this as an opportunity, and considering the many factors that come into play when creating a responsive and intentional change strategy. At the essence of all change is people and leveraging the talents and capacities of those involved in the process is crucial. This workshop will explore practical and collaborative processes to plan, gain traction, and move a vision forward.

Participants will:

  • Explore the why and how of change leadership

  • Reflect on their own setting and determine the capacity for authentic change in their particular context

  • Deepen their understanding of strengths based leadership

  • Engage with collaborative processes that build strong teams and facilitate intentional and ongoing change management

Whilst the general focus is leading change in the early years, this workshop is suitable for Early Years/Primary School Teachers and School Leaders looking to explore practical ways to lead a significant change process within their own learning context.

Workshop Presenters Biography: Jo McIlroy

Jo has worked in education for over twenty five years in her home country of New Zealand and internationally in Indonesia, China, Thailand, and Singapore. A passionate educator, Jo has taught across the elementary school, has been a guidance counselor, and most recently a school leader. She currently serves as a deputy principal in the elementary school at Singapore American School. In her current role she works alongside an inspiring team in the early learning center who have engaged in an intensive philosophical and pedagogical change process over the past five years. Jo is also actively involved in the ongoing implementation of an elementary school Chinese immersion programme. Motivated by change, Jo is particularly interested in strengths based leadership and collaborative processes to facilitate intentional and ongoing change management. She adores working with young learners and is particularly inspired by the foundational beliefs of the educational philosophy of Reggio Emilia.
