An Introduction to Positive Education: Student and Staff Wellbeing

Workshop Descriptor:

This workshop is an introduction to the science based concepts of Positive Psychology and Positive Education. Positive Education is an approach to education that draws on positive psychology's emphasis of individual strengths and personal motivation to promote learning. It comes from the work of Dr. Martin Seligman and is based on Positive Psychology. With a focus on wellbeing; resilience optimism, mindfulness and character strengths attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on their own practices and apply these to the well-being of students and staff within the school environment. This workshop is an energetic mix of both theory based research and practical activities.


Participants will:

· gain an understanding of the key principles and concepts of Positive Education and Positive Psychology

· gain an understanding of the role of Positive Education in the school environment and benefit to student well-being

· an opportunity to reflect on personal practices and apply the key concepts of Positive Psychology to one’s own well-being and practice

· participate in both practical and theoretical activities throughout the workshop


Audience:

This workshop is suitable for Elementary, Middle, Senior School welfare leaders, classroom teachers, counsellors and senior leaders


Workshop Leaders: Ardene Mandziy and David Kainey

Ardene Mandziy is the Assistant Head of Well-being (Secondary) at the Australian International School Singapore. She holds a Masters in Education and a Diploma in Positive Psychology. Ardene is a passionate leader in Positive Education and a regular presenter to both staff and students assisting in the implementation and fostering of Positive Education within the school environment.


David Kainey is the Assistant Head of Welfare (Elementary) at the Australian International School Singapore. He has worked in the area of Well-being for the past 3 years with Restorative Practices, Mindfulness and more recently in the development of the understanding of and embedding Positive Education to support student well-being in the Elementary School setting.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation for the workshop.

Workshop Registration Fee

Early Bird Fee: US$300.00

Registration fee after the 28 January 2018: US$330.00

Registration fee after the 28 March 2018: US$360.00

Cancellation Policy

Please note that each workshop will proceed based on participant registration. Innovative Global Education will inform you by March 27 2018 if the workshop is to be cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled your full payment will be reimbursed.

Workshop Participation

If Innovative Global Education is informed by March 27 2018, that a participant is unable to attend the workshop, a full refund will be given. If notification of not being able to participate is after March 27 2018, IGE will be unable to refund the registration fee.


If, for any reason, a school needs to either transfer a registered participant to another workshop from the workshop registered or change the name of the participant attending a workshop, Innovative Global Education can make these changes on request from the school or participant.
