Join us for a special class with Chef Ellard, the host of the Culinary Edge TV, a show that explores cooking and travel while emphasizing the importance of culture, community, and quality ingredients.

In this class, Chef Ellard will show you how to make the following pupus using local and sustainable ingredients:

Local Ogo (Seaweed) Salad
Chef Ellard's signature salad featuring ogo seaweed grown locally at the Natural Energy Lab in Kona.

Spicy Ahi Poke
A staple at poke counters across Hawai’i that includes local ahi with a creamy and spicy twist.

Sri Lankan Coconut Sambal
A recipe that Chef Ellard discovered while traveling through the island nation of Sri Lanka.

Baked Calamari
A family recipe passed down from Chef Ellard's father. So simple and so delicioso. The best calamari recipe ever!


ABOUT THE CHEF:

Chef Ellard is a chef, writer, public health advocate, fisherman, surfer, economist, musician, filmmaker, and part-time philosopher. As a Chef, he has cooked in many conventional and non-conventional settings with and for great people with great hearts. He has cooked for the poor in San Francisco for Thanksgiving; made meatballs and eggplant parmesan with director and winemaker Francis Ford Coppola; made lau lau and cooked in imus with Hawaiian Aunties and Uncles in the jungles of the Big Island; and cooked with his father, who taught him the recipes of his Italian and Ukranian heritage.

Since 2012, Chef Ellard has traveled the globe in search of authentic food adventures as a producer and host of the food and travel series the Culinary Edge TV.

What's the refund policy?

If you cancel at least 72 hours prior to a class, you will receive a full credit (not a cash refund, but a credit towards another class or for use in The Spoon Shop). After that, you may transfer your registration to someone else (we ask you to notify us in advance if you're doing this). In the rare event that an instructor needs to cancel last minute, students will receive a full refund. We do not otherwise offer cash refunds.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

You may transfer your registration/ticket to someone else for no fee. Please contact us directly to do that.

Do I need to print my ticket?

No, you do not need to print your ticket.

Is alcohol available/provided?

Due to state liquor laws, we are unable to provide alcohol. But please feel free to BYOB to any of our classes. You can always contact us in advance for suggested pairings or you can check with Kona Wine Market across the street for recommendations.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Please contact us in advance with any dietary restrictions. The recipes that will be used are developed using common cooking and baking ingredients that may or may not be specified in the menu titles, including various fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. If you have a food allergy, please check with The Spoon Shop Kona before registering for the class. Adjustments to recipes cannot be made during class. We will share your dietary needs with our teachers and do our best to accommodate your requests. However, the curriculum for some classes cannot be revised in order to provide the best experience for the entire group.
