Silver Dragon XI
Thu, April 20, 2017, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM PDT
Please join the Atherton, East Palo Alto & Menlo Park Community Crisis Management program in both practicing our disaster response, and helping the San Mateo County Health Department distribute important medical information. The Menlo Fire District’s Community Crisis Management program (CCM) includes our district-wide Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and numerous community organizations and passionate volunteers.
This is the eleventh year that San Mateo County Health Department is conducting the Silver Dragon Emergency Exercise, and our communities are once again taking part. This is a county-wide exercise that tests the Health System's ability to partner with the local cities, law enforcement & fire agencies, American Red Cross, and County Mosquito and Vector Control, to efficiently manually disseminate critical information during a potential health crisis.
This year’s exercise will test the County’s ability to effectively interrupt the growth of mosquitos and other disease-spreading animals, as well as respond to a potential outbreak of a mosquito-borne disease like Zika virus, through mass-distributed instructions and information gathering. This has been an exceptionally wet rainy season and we expect more mosquitoes as a result, so this is a very timely exercise scenario.
The Menlo Fire District (Atherton, Menlo Park and East Palo Alto) will be participating by setting up a CERT command post, forming neighborhood distribution teams, and canvassing proscribed areas with public safety outreach information. Everyone will get a chance to practice radio communication and information capturing skills, as well as getting to know their local public safety responders and neighbors, all while we perform a valuable community education effort.
All volunteers are welcome; CERT members and Amateur Radio operators are especially encouraged to join. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This is a great opportunity to learn about CERT and about joining our next class (starts on 4/29).
