ZiRu Dance is excited to announce “Renewal”, a year-long creative journey consisting of two festivals, workshop classes, and international cultural exchange to help bridge communities and foster feelings of togetherness, even from afar. Over the course of the next year, “Renewal” will curate two Silicon Valley Dance Festival events, one in December 2020 and the second in March 2021. These events will focus on positive growth, healing, and equity.

For the December 2020 virtual festival, we bring to you a diverse line up of 7 main stage choreographers and 7 young choreographers from around the world, featuring work centered around the theme of "Renewal".

Saturday, December 19, 2020: The seven featured choreographers include five BIPOC artists: Philein Wang of ZiRu Dance (Redwood City); Robert Moses of Robert Moses’ Kin (San Francisco); ADIYA of BeijingDance/LDTX (Beijing, China); Brenda Way and KT Nelson of ODC/Dance (San Francisco); Sidra Bell of Sidra Bell Dance New York; and Jennifer Archibald for AXIS Dance Company (Oakland).

Sunday, December 20, 2020: The Festival continues with the Emerging Choreographer Program. The Emerging Choreographer program features the work of Tassiana Willis and Melecio Estrella (BANDALOOP) and the work of seven independent dancemakers: Vincent Chavez, Eric Garcia, Charles Roy Jr., Kathryn Florez and Katie Meyers (Fullstop Dance), Miche Wong and Jaime Garcia Castilla.

Philein Wang, Artistic Director of ZiRu Dance says, “In times like these, dance can serve to shed light on and offer ways to heal from racism, xenophobia, and isolation.” She explains that Renewal is focused on highlighting an international roster of artists and the collective growth potential in response to COVID-19. Wang adds, “Bringing together Black, indigenous, and people of color artists from across the nation and around the world highlights the beauty of our multicultural society.”
