Description

*** PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE TO SUNDAY 11/5 and Buffet Dinner offered before the event ***

Christ's Church is delighted to once again host renowned international concert organist David Briggs who will improvise a live soundtrack to the classic 1928 silent movie, "The Phantom of the Opera", on the 1963 Austin organ.

David’s schedule includes more than 60 concerts a year, spanning several continents. Deeply committed to making organ music vibrant for future generations, he enjoys giving pre-concert lectures designed to make organ music more accessible to audiences. With an extensive repertoire spanning five centuries, he is known across the globe for his brilliant organ transcriptions of symphonic music by composers such as Mahler, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Bruckner, Ravel, and Bach. His concerts regularly end with a large-scale improvisation on themes presented by the audience.

David has an ever-increasing repertoire of silent movies, with the unique Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chaney, 1928) topping the bill at just under 300 performances over the past decade and a half. Other silent movies include King of Kings (Cecil B de Mille, 1928), Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1928), Nosferatu (1921), Sunrise (1929), Metropolis (Fritz Lang) and Jeanne d'Arc (Carl Dreyer, 1929).

Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students, and children under 13 free for the event.

Buffet dinner of chili, cornbread and salads: $20 per head.

Reception to follow movie in the Parish Hall
