Significant Smart Energy Projects in the Region and what your business can learn from them

 

During this breakfast briefing hosted by Saint-Gobain, the Smart Energy Initiative (SEI) of Southeastern PA will provide updates on significant investments made by regional government and non-government entities to improve energy efficiency and use Alternative energy. Our speakers include key representatives from the Borough of West Chester, County of Chester, and Saint-Gobain (Malvern, PA). They will provide an update on how energy is used within their facilities and the measures taken to continuously enhance its effective use. Learn about these cost effective projects and learn how they may apply to your business.

 

We are excited to have Julian Boogs, Policy Director - Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance (KEEA), as our Q&A Moderator.

The Borough of West Chester and County of Chester will speak to the investments made to their infrastructure; allowing them to more efficiently service its community. Saint-Gobain will share their vision of what continuous improvement means to them and the Wins that can be achieved by always reaching for the next level.

Lastly there will be an update available on CPACE and how this may help you finance your commercial energy projects, possibly at a net zero cost.

Presenter Bios:

 

Stephen Sinclair, Project Manager - County of Chester Department of Facilities Management

Stephen Sinclair, Project Manager, County of Chester Department of Facilities Management Stephen leads a diverse array of capital construction projects involving County-owned assets including buildings, parks and trails.  Since 2014, he has guided the County’s Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project – which to date has resulted in at least $1m of savings through the installation of targeted energy saving measures.  Prior to joining the County, Stephen served as project manager for a landscape architectural design firm, where he focused on campus planning that included large-scale site redevelopment and athletic facility improvements at Lincoln University.  He holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from University of Maryland at College Park.

 

Ryan Spies, Director of Sustainability, Energy & Stewardship - Saint-Gobain in North America

Ryan currently serves as the Director of Sustainability, Energy & Stewardship for Saint-Gobain in North America. Saint-Gobain, a 353-year-old French company, is the largest manufacturer of building products in the world. Ryan is responsible for developing strategy and programs to manage energy, water, waste and CO2 reductions at over 130 manufacturing facilities in North America, including direct work on climate change policy and renewable energy deployment. After various roles in engineering and strategy, Ryan has been working in corporate sustainability for the last 8 years at 3 separate Fortune 500 companies. In 2019 Ryan was presented the IETC Award for leadership and energy conservation and environmental stewardship. Ryan has an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis and a Mechanical Engineering degree from Lehigh University.

 

Will Williams, Sustainability Director - West Chester Borough

Will joined the Borough of West Chester as the Borough’s first Sustainability Director in 2019, where he works on energy and environmental issues on behalf of residents, businesses, and Borough Council. Prior to working for the Borough Will was the Director of Sustainability and Utility Management at Philadelphia-based Pennrose Properties, a multifamily developer focused on affordable housing. Will delivered $1M in annual value through energy and water conservation, capital projects, and energy procurement, and also advised Pennrose’s development team on how to build more environmentally and economically sustainable operating properties. Prior to joining Pennrose Will worked as an Energy and Sustainability Coordinator at Liberty Property Trust, a commercial and industrial REIT based in southeast Pennsylvania, and for the Smart Energy Initiative, an Industry Partnership managed by the Chester County Economic Development Council.

 

Will received a BS in Environmental Science from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and currently studies Sustainable Engineering at Villanova University. Will earned the LEED Green Associate credential in 2016. He resides in the Borough of West Chester with his partner Marika and hound dog Whiskey Boy.
