Four local chefs are teaming up to help stop child hunger in west Michigan this summer, by hosting an event benefitting Kids’ Food Basket. The four-day event will feature live chef demonstrations and a five course meal hand-crafted with the freshest local ingredients from Ingraburg Farms in Rockford.

“The inspiration from this event came from the idea of not just loving local, but living it,” said Chef Andrew Alcid, Executive Chef at Wheelhouse Kitchen & Cocktails. “We’ve brought together some of the best chefs in west Michigan who are all united under the common cause of stopping child hunger.”

Dave Lundberg, owner of Ingraburg Farms, heard of this mission and got on board, generously donating fresh produce used in every dish made during the Signature Chef Series. “We are so excited that we can contribute to this awesome event,” said Lundberg. “The mission of Ingraberg Farms is to provide the greater Grand Rapids community with fresh, local produce at an affordable price. This event drives that mission home, while also helping kids along the way.”

Each event will run from 6:00pm-8:30pm and will feature all four local chefs completing one of the five courses. Each event will feature a different local produce, picked at the height of the season at Ingraburg Farms. These chefs include Chef Alcid from Wheelhouse, Chef Mick Rickerd and Ed Werner from Mangiamo, Chef Daniel Cook from Creston Brewery and Chef Greg Bastien from Vander Mill.

“This event gives west Michigan a unique taste of the growing culinary scene in Grand Rapids,” said Chef Bastien. “Each restaurant and Chef have their own culinary flare that makes them unique. These events create a melting pot of each restaurant’s flavor and culture, making this a one of a kind experience for every guest.”

“We can’t have strong communities without strong kids. Sack Suppers are a direct service that meet a critical need: ensuring children have access to the good nutrition they need to learn and live well,” said Bridget Clark Whitney, Executive Director at Kids’ food Basket. “As a 100% charitably-funded program, we absolutely couldn’t provide Sack Suppers without the support of community partners like these talented chefs. We are so grateful for their support and commitment to our community’s kids.”

The four-day Chef series will take place at the following locations:

Guests can purchase tickets by visiting or calling participating restaurants. Tickets are $55 per person and are required for entry into the event. Drinks, taxes, tips and gratuity are not included. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated to Kids’ Food Basket.
