Description

Please join us for the first Smithsonian Morning at the Museum at the National Museum of African Art!

Get inspired by the museum's Visionary: Viewpoints on Africa’s Arts and take home your own work of art inspired by our permanent collection. Visitors will first learn about uli, a traditional Igbo art form created by women to decorate their bodies and the outside walls of their houses. You'll also discover the Nsukka Group, an artists’ movement that looked to uli and its fluid lines and symbols to inspire their contemporary practice. Then, you paint your own masterpiece onto fabric!

Saturday, February 3, 2018; 9:00 am - 10:00 a.m. The entrance to the National Museum of African Art is located at 950 Independence Avenue SW.

Activities will include: create your own uli art, a seek and find through the Visionary: Viewpoints on Africa's Arts exhbition, and hands-on discovery carts.

Registration required.

**Morning at the Museum is a sensory-friendly program for children, teens, and their families.**
