絲 sī: Communal Backstrap Weaving Workshop

Participants are called to hold space and tension in their bodies, redirecting this energy into the repetitive act of weaving.

“絲” (the traditional Chinese character for “silk”, pronounced sī) is a homonym of “撕.” The word evokes the act of tearing apart, while drawing back to its reconstruction. Participants will use backstrap looms tethered to one another, in silent conversation, to bring about conversations centred on labour, care, anchored in their bodies.

This workshop will explore the intersections of weaving with collectivity, resilience, and labour.

Tickets are £12 each with free spaces available, contact us to reserve a spot. Limited spaces available for this workshop! If you are unable to attend, we kindly ask that you inform us as soon as possible on @silkwormcollective or arrange for a replacement. As the workshop requires participants be split in groups of two, this ensures that no one is left out.
