As organizations look for better and more efficient ways to deliver their GIS content, many are turning to online mapping with ArcGIS Online. This two day instructor led course will teach both existing ArcGIS for Desktop users and those new to GIS how they can use ArcGIS Pro to create 2D and 3D maps using ArcGIS Pro. Students will learn terminology associated with ArcGIS Pro and GIS in general. They will gain an understanding of ArcGIS Pro projects and how to manage them.

Introduction to ArcGIS I: GIS Fundamentals
Pre-Workshop Training, November 6 & 7. This two day instructor led course provides the foundation for understanding GIS, what it can do, and how others are using it. Students learn the basic functions of a GIS, GIS Terminology, and why GIS is powerful tool for data analysis, retrieval and visualization using Esri's ArcGIS for Desktop software. In course exercises, students work with ArcMap, an application within ArcGIS Desktop, to visualize geographic data, create maps, query a GIS database, and perform spatial analysis.

Introduction to Programming ArcGIS Pro with Python
In our two day instructor led Introduction to Programming ArcGIS Pro with Python course you will learn introductory level Python skills with ArcGIS Pro to automate your geoprocessing tasks. We’ll start with an overview of the basic programming constructs of Python version 3.4. You’ll learn how to create variables, assign data to variables, work with lists, dictionary, and tuples, branch your code with if/else, for, and while statements, work with classes and objects, and other fundamentals. Next, in Module 2, you’ll learn the fundamentals of the Arcpy core library along with several sub-modules including the Mapping and Data Access modules. You’ll learn also learn the basic classes and functions from the Arcpy core library. In Module 3 you’ll learn how to handle error and exceptions in your code. Using the Python try/except code block along with error messages that are generated in ArcPy you’ll understand how to gracefully trap and recover from the inevitable errors in your code. Modules 4 through 7 cover the Arcpy Mapping module in exhaustive details. In Module 4 you’ll learn how to write geoprocessing scripts that manage your projects as well as the maps, layers, and tables that are part of your projects. You’ll learn how to programmatically add and remove layers from a map, update symbology and properties of layers, and much more including working with the new Camera and Bookmark classes. In Module 5 you’ll learn how to work with layouts. In ArcGIS Pro you can have multiple layout views so you’ll learn how to manage these objects, make programmatic changes to the elements in the layouts, and export or print the layouts. Module 6 covers the automation of map production and printing including the use of map books. Finally, in Module 7 you’ll discover how to find and fix broken data links in your ArcGIS Pro project files.

The Seven Hills Regional User Group for GIS is dedicated to bringing you the best GIS workshop experience possible!

The 2017 Annual SHRUG GIS Workshop will provide a forum for sharing the latest GIS related technology, research and development activities. We bring engaging industry leaders from all around the southeastern United States, into a format which combines thought provoking talks, informative demonstrations, and lively, hands-on labs. This workshop will showcase ongoing GIS efforts in both government and private sector organizations, and will cover all levels of experience from beginner to expert. Not to mention that the venue - and even the food! - are an experience in themselves. This is a GIS conference with a difference.

This Year's Workshop Theme: Bringing GIS into Focus! GIS is an exciting field of work with many specialty concentrations. These days, advancements in GIS are occurring so rapidly you might easily miss something that could be a game changer. “Bringing GIS into focus” is a reminder… A GIS Life moves pretty fast.
