Event description

Description

Join us at Wave for an intimate discussion Showcasing Women in Tech!

Showcasing three phenomenal women; Ideshini Naidoo, Brooke Wayne, and Dileshni Jayasinghe. Join us in conversation on March 27th to hear their stories and experiences, participate in a Q&A session, and be inspired by how they’ve overcome challenges while working in the technology space. On the agenda: light refreshments, networking, and even better conversation!

You’ll hear from three women with diverse backgrounds and in different roles;

Dileshni Jayasinghe

Engineering Manager, PagerDuty

Dileshni is currently an Engineering Manager at PagerDuty. Prior to that, she spent time honing her skills as a backend engineer and as a Team Lead at Unata and Freshbooks. In 2015, Dileshni co-founded a tech meetup called ExploreTechTo which is still going strong today. If she’s not busy with all of the above, you can find her playing ball hockey and scuba diving. Follow her on Twitter.

Brooke Wayne

Support Communications Specialist, Freshbooks

Proudly deaf with lip reading superpowers and a love for words, Brooke first started out in the post-secondary and retail fields before realizing her calling in tech. In 2015, she joined Freshbooks as a Support Specialist. Not long after, she joined their Inclusivity Circle too. Last year, Brooke pitched an idea for a new role and became Freshbooks’ first Support Communications Specialist for both internal and external documentation. In her spare time, you can find Brooke playing competitive dodgeball, D&D, painting, or camping in the outdoors.

Ideshini Naidoo

SVP, Information Technology, Wave

Ideshini leads the Engineering, Security and Project Management teams at Wave, numbering over 60. Her background includes extensive experience ranging from startups to emerging divisions at large corporations such as Debeers where she proudly has her name on the blueprint of “low radiation X-ray technology” brought into the Healthcare industry over 20 years ago. Her most recent experience is in international banking, including a role as Head of Corporate Online Banking channels for Africa at Barclays Bank, and CIO at Rand Merchant Bank, Africa’s largest bank. Ideshini joined Wave last November, and has been fearlessly heading up bold initiatives ever since.

Inclusivity is our priority. Women, non-binary folks, and allies are welcome. Please feel free to share this event with your networks!

Agenda:

Doors open at 6:00 pm. Grab a seat and get to know the women around you. We’ll provide snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to keep you energized!

The event begins at 6:30 pm with roughly 20 minutes per speaker and 10 minutes for questions following each talk.

At 8:00 pm, we’ll wrap up and save some time to chat as a group, learn from each other’s stories, and connect with other women in tech.

Notes on Accessibility:

We make every effort to provide a welcoming and accessible environment for everyone interested in attending, but unfortunately Wave HQ lives in a 100+ year old building and is not fully accessible at this time. The event will be held on the 6th floor of 235 Carlaw, which is accessible by elevator. Please note, however, that the elevator is small by modern standards and there are 8 stairs at the entrance of the building.

We are still looking for ASL interpretation for this event; if you have any recommendations, please reach Kat@waveapps.com.

If you require other accommodations, please let us know in the notes when you RSVP!
