Event description

Description

Project Deadline: Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 11:30pm.

The crane is a Japanese symbol for hope and healing during challenging times and our mission at the American Cancer Society is to provide hope. The project goal is to meet and exceed 1,000 volunteers, each of whom will make a paper crane and share their creations on social media in order to spread awareness, show support, and create solidarity. Cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, friends, and family should never feel alone during their own or a loved one's cancer journey.

---

Getting involved can be done in (4) super easy steps:

Step 1 - Register on All for Good as a volunteer for A Thousand Cranes.

Step 2 - Create some origami cranes! Here's a Video Tutorial.

Step 3 - Tag @AmericanCancer on Twitter with photos of you and your beautiful birdies with the hashtag #acs1000papercranes.

*** If you don't have a Twitter account, that's okay! Just email your pics to the Project Coordinator, Monifa Aldridge, at monifa(dot)aldridge(at)cancer(dot)org.

Last Step - Please mail your crane flat and in a birdie-sized envelope to the ACS Walnut Creek Office. Our address is provided below:

American Cancer Society
ATTN: A Thousand Cranes
2185 N. California Blvd, Ste 290
Walnut Creek, CA 94596

---

A Thousand Cranes is also a family volunteer project in conjunction with the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program to earn up to twenty 1-Day Park Hopper tickets for hosting, or participating in, family volunteering activities.

All Disneyland Hopper tickets earned through A Thousand Cranes will be sold at auction at the San Francisco Discovery Gala on Saturday, October 5, 2019. The proceeds from this auction will benefit the American Cancer Society and its vital health services programs.

While A Thousand Cranes is a family volunteer event, anyone and everyone is invited to make a paper crane.

Paper cranes made and mailed in by volunteers will be placed on colorful string and hung in the Wig Room at the ACS Walnut Creek (CA) office, where cancer patients receiving a free wig can be encouraged by these "birds of health, hope, and happiness."

The ACS will NOT store your information (name, email, address, etc.) for any purpose other than for the A Thousand Cranes Project. We absolutely do not sell personal information to third parties nor will we spam you (because that's not cool).

If you would like to learn more about the American Cancer Society, please go to cancer.org. To get involved as a volunteer for ACS, please click on the Get Involved tab on the cancer.org website.
