Event Information
About this Event
Join retired homicide investigator Gary Carr to gain a better understanding of Self-Defense Laws and Liability through the use of realistic training scenarios, as he takes you through scenarios designed to test your reactions in stressful situations. You will also learn about the behaviors that create legal problems during and after a self-defense incident, as well as how to correctly engage with law enforcement.
We will also cover the Legal Use of Force and Castle Doctrine. This training will help all gun owners navigate the legal aftermath of a self-defense incident.
Students will be put into real-life scenarios including home invasions, car-jacking, robbery & defense of others, where they will be encouraged to use verbal commands, de-escalation techniques and avoidance in addition to potential use of their handgun skills by drawing from the holster or concealment.
After each scenario we conduct an after-action review discussing legal justification, potential consequences & legal issues in addition to suggestions of how to minimize damages. Students will gain a better understanding of Illinois Self-Defense Laws, the Limitations of Self-Defense, Castle Doctrine & Stand Your Ground.
No live firearms will be allowed in the classroom. We will be using Glock 17 replica laser pistols for the Should I Shoot scenarios.
