Shostakovich and Chaplin

Loudoun Symphony Orchestra Conductor Finalist Concert #2

Jason Love, conductor and finalist for the LSO conductor position

Written in the wake of a rebuke from Stalin, Shostakovich created not only one of the most moving and dramatic symphonies ever written, but possibly saved his own life in the process. Acknowledging the award of an honorary doctorate, Brahms’ salute to learning weaves actual student songs of the era into one of his most exuberant scores. Catholic University composer Andrew Earle Simpson’s new score to the classic Chaplin short The Immigrant rounds out this eclectic program.

Our search committee has chosen Maestro Jason Love as one of three finalists for the LSO conductor position. Attend the concert and tell us what you think. Should Maestro Love become the LSO’s next conductor?

  • Academic Festival Overture, J. Brahms
  • Charlie Chaplin’s “The Immigrant”, A. Simpson
  • Symphony No. 5, D. Shostakovich
