Description

Short Tales from the Mothership

Please join the UC San Diego Library for Short Tales from the Mothership, a written/spoken word event taken from the sci-fi aesthetics of UC San Diego’s iconic Geisel Library building, on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Seuss Room.

Writers should send fantasy or science fiction pieces of no more than 250 words to spaulson@ucsd.edu by Friday, May 25. At the event, participants will have the opportunity to read their entries or have them read aloud for them. This event is free and open to the public.

Short Tales from the Mothership is the fourth meeting of the Library’s micro-fiction project. The evening is a celebration of an elegant genre taking inspiration from the short postcard stories that magazine editor George Hay encouraged in the 1970’s. He dared such authors as Arthur C. Clarke to send sci-fi stories that easily fit onto a postcard. Come ready to be surprised and delighted by the creative short tales from fellow futurists, time-travelers, inventors, artists and writers.

Otherworldly libations from the refreshment laboratory will be served along with live Theremin & synthesizer musical interludes.
