A discussion on how to get the most out of your short film with MIFF Accelerator filmmakers.

About this Event

Making a short film is a labour of love. For many filmmakers, the goal is to get their short film into festivals. On this panel, we will discuss writing a short, budgeting and festival strategies. Come and learn from filmmakers who participated in this years MIFF Accelerator program and gain insight into how to get the most out of your short.

Panelists

Dannika Horvat is an award winning writer and director from Melbourne. Drawn to telling stories that focus on young women, Dannika deals with themes of sexuality and moral ambiguity. She is currently in post-production for a short film, and is in development for her first feature length narrative and mini series.

Anoop Lokkur is a Melbourne-based filmmaker. Originally from Bangalore, India, Anoop moved to Australia in early 2007 and co-founded a creative agency løkk+weave. He's completed two short films: The Laundromat (2018), and Long Distance (2019). Informed by his own experiences as an immigrant, Anoop’s interest has honed in on exploring the subtleties of identity within a contemporary setting, particularly those aspects which are affected by inter- and intra-cultural difference.

After making his first short film, For the Love of Julio, Jamieson Pearce studied at the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS) in Sydney. Since then, he has been making short films, music videos and online content. In 2017, his award-winning short film Adult premiered at South by SouthWest. His next short film, Strangers premiered at Sydney Film Festival in 2019 and was selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Accelerator Lab.

An independent filmmaker originally from Iran, Kimia Hendi studied a Bachelor of Cinema, specialized in Cinematography, at Tehran’s University of Art. Having then completed her Masters of Film & TV at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), winning Outstanding Achievement Award 2018. Since 2015, she has made three short films and a documentary "Adam and Eves". She most recently won MIFF Emerging Australian Director 2019.

This panel will be moderated by Matthew Smolen, founder of Balloon Tree Productions and MIFF Accelerator participant.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided on the night.
