Event description

Description

Shoreline Project is a community experience involving art and nature; a moment in time where we drop our labels, borders, inhibitions, and are free. There is no barrier to entry.

Elizabeth Turk has developed the experience, which is designed to create a memory and a connection from person to person, for Laguna Art Museum's Art & Nature.

On November 3, 2018, 1,000 people will volunteer in this performance and walk away with beautifully sculpted LED umbrellas, an evolution of Turk's Seashell X-Ray Mandala Series. The performance will place in Laguna Beach.

Register here to confirm that you will participate in the performance. You will receive an email confirmation as well as information about the project as it develops.

* You can Sponsor groups and secure their umbrellas by contacting Laura at elizabethturkstudios@gmail.com

WHAT IS SHORELINE PROJECT

Laguna Art Museum, Art & Nature, Nov. 3, 2018

Shoreline Project is a 1000-person community project based off of a body of work by Elizabeth Turk, titled Seashell X-Ray Mandala Series. In this 'seashell memorial' she has developed 1,000 LED umbrellas which emulate the original seashell mobil home, opening doors to ALL to experience a shared memory.; there is NO barrier to entry. This community experience is hosted by Laguna Art Museum's 2018 Centennial Celebration Art & Nature. The event takes place on Laguna's Main Beach on November 3rd.

Elizabeth Turk is a native Californian artist. She is inspired by the natural world often referencing its myriad of elegant organic structures. Turk's work makes possible what seems impossible and in the process slows us down inspiring a deeper understanding. Her work is incomplete until abandoned to larger environments, thus humbling the intensity of her creative focus.

In 2010 Turk was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship and the Annalee & Barnett Newman Foundation award. An MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Rinehart School of Sculpture; and BA from Scripps College, Claremont. She has been represented by Hirschl & Adler, Modern since 2000, while investigating experimental concepts in other venues. In 2018 Elizabeth Turk established a 501C3 under the name ET Studios. ET Studios is a non-profit group formed to create change through creative arts.
