Event description

Description

Billions of dollars in development have happened along the Woodward Corridor in recent years and Downtown is at the epicenter of it all. Unoccupied buildings & vacant land have been traded for new residential and commercial projects. For the first time in decades, construction cranes are a common sight. It was only a matter of time before retailers made their mark.

Shopping tour stops include:

Metro-Detroit based Moosejaw was one of the first to get the party started. In 2012, the outdoor recreational apparel store opened what was supposed to be a temporary pop up shop — That store remains open to this day, and was joined by a second storefront in 2015. High end clothing retailer John Varvatos, named after the famous native Detroiter and designer, opened up on Woodward in 2015. Since then it's been joined by other retail heavy hitters such as lululemon and Nike.

The Capitol Park area has seen an influx in local retailers - from boutique pet store City Bark to women's clothing retailer Bird Bee, Capitol Park is one of the trendiest retail strips in the city.

Tour begins promptly at 11am. Walking is required between stops. Please allow yourself a sufficient amount of time to find parking and arrive at the location. For groups of 10 or more, please contact our Welcome Center for accommodations.

The Holiday Shopping Tour Series is generously sponsored by Bedrock Detroit.
