Event description

Description

25th & 26th November 2017, Surrey Air Gun Meeting, Bisley

You are invited to take part in the Shooting and Mental Skills Research (SAMS) Project. Your participation takes 1 hour and there is no shooting involved; just a couple of questionnaires to fill out and then an interesting on screen concentration test that involves simple arithmetic and letters. IMPORTANT: PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR FORMS BEFORE YOU ATTEND IF POSSIBLE. THEY ARE AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD BELOW.

N.B. Unfortunately you will not be able to participate in this study if you dance Argentinian tango, play chess or bridge. Also if you have shot but are no longer shooting, you are not eligible at this stage for the research.

Shooting and non-shooting (never shot) volunteers are urgently needed to take part in this ground-breaking research. If it proves, as seems increasingly likely, that there is a health benefit from participation in shooting sports, it could be revolutionary. Charitable status and fund raising success could be at stake, so please get involved.

The research only takes 40-50 minutes per person and all you need to do is book in by clicking the button to the right on Eventbrite to reserve your 1 hour slot.

Like all academic research projects, volunteers are required to give informed consent. Please read the information in the links below and make sure that you are happy before you decide to take part. If you are willing to participate, please use Eventbrite to book your one hour slot.

Please read this INFORMATION LEAFLET before you decide to participate in the research study. CONSENT FORMS and PERSONAL INFORMATION FORMS are available to fill out before you attend if possible. You can download the CONSENT FORM AND PERSONAL INFORMATION forms through these links. Please bring your forms to your appointment. Forms will also be available on arrival if you do not manage to obtain them beforehand.

If you have any questions please contact the organisers or read the FAQ in this link.

Feedback

We will send you the results of your assessments once we have had time to score the assessments and email them out

EEG Recordings

We are not recording EEG during shots this year, but may return to this in 2018

Thank you!

Thank you very much for helping us with this project. We can’t emphasise enough the importance of your participation in helping us to secure the future of target shooting and the significance of the research in contributing to research into the health and well-being of the elderly.
