Event description

Description

You are invited to take part in a research study during Bisley week, Monday 14th - Friday 18th August, at Bisley Camp. It is called the Shooting and Mental Skills Research (SAMS) Project, takes 1 hour and there is no shooting involved; just a couple of questionnaires to fill out and then an interesting on screen concentration test that involves simple arithmetic and letters. If you particpated last year you don't need to book; just turn up on the hour or half hour and ask Jean for the form she needs you to complete.

Shooting and non-shooting volunteers are urgently needed to take part in this ground-breaking research. If it proves, as seems increasingly likely, that there is a health benefit from participation in shooting sports, it could be revolutionary. Charitable status and fund raising success could be at stake, so please get involved.

The research only takes 40-50 minutes per person and all you need to do is book in by clicking the button to the right on Eventbrite to reserve your 1 hour slot.

The sessions are being run near the Century range, at the Sit Perpetuum Club House directly in front of the Army TSC and NRA headquarters. If you need directions, please ask at NSRA Stats reception.

Like all academic research projects, volunteers are required to give informed consent. Please read the information in the links below and make sure that you are happy before you decide to take part. If you are willing to participate, please use Eventbrite to book your one hour slot.

CONSENT FORMS and PERSONAL INFORMATION FORMS are available at the NSRA Stats Reception or Sit Perpetuum Club House to fill out before you attend if possible. Otherwise you can download the CONSENT FORM AND PERSONAL INFORMATION forms through these links. Either way, please bring your forms to your appointment. Forms will also be available on arrival if you do not manage to obtain them beforehand.

If you have any questions please contact the organisers or read the FAQ in this link.

The SAMS Project is being run under the auspices of Ulster University and Edith Cowan University in Perth Western Australia.

Feedback

We will send you the results of your assessments once we have had time to score the assessments and email them out

If you took part last year and would like to receive your results, we will send them to you and would like to invite you to complete one more questionnaire. We think you will find interesting and it may give you some useful information about how you are progressing with your mental training.

EEG Recordings

We are not recording EEG during shots this year, but may return to this in 2018

Thank you!

Thank you very much for helping us with this project. We can’t emphasise enough the importance of your participation in helping us to secure the future of target shooting and the significance of the research in contributing to research into the health and well-being of the elderly.
