Description

Family friendly afternoon includes: Workshops, kitchen activities, garden tours, local environmental resources, tasty treats, legislative actions, interactive activity fair (Shuk).

You can sign up to volunteer on the day of the event here!

For the first half we'll have breakout sessions including:

Serving Justice at your Passover Seder

  • How can our seders lift up contemporary struggles for worker justice and immigration justice, and inspire us to join those fights? Come learn and plot liberation liturgy together. Join Cantor Vera Broekhuysen to recognize modern-day forms of oppression and servitude and integrate them in our retelling of the eternal journey from slavery into freedom.

How to use the Plants that Grow Around You

  • Learn about the plants growing in your own yard, and how they can be used both for nutrition and to aid healing. Come prepared to be outside! Iris Weaver is an herbalist and foraging instructor who has been teaching about edible and medicinal plants for over 40 years and forages around her home on the North Shore.

Sustainable Congregational Kitchens: How can we set up our kitchen for less environmental impact?

  • If you’ve tried, or wanted to try, come join a peer-led conversation about community engagement, behavior change, and resource sharing.

The Top Five Things Adults Can Do for the Environment

  • A fun and energetic look at the things we can all do that add up to make a big impact on our planet, community & health. Lauren Belmonte, environmental scientist and Change is Simple Co-founder, will lead an interactive session on the 5 practical ways you can impact the planet daily. She will also discuss the importance of legislative action from individuals in the community to create change.

Engage Your Community in Climate Work

  • Join Rabbi Katy Allen of the Jewish Climate Action Network to explore five different pathways to engaging your community in energy reduction and climate change action, and hear updates from the Second Jewish Climate Change Conference: The Task Is Great, the Time Is Short.

Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) for Little Hands

  • Stories, crafts, movement, snack for our youngest environmental stewards and their families, with Amanda Campbell, Jewish educator and Young Family/PJ Library Program Coordinator at Temple B'nai Abraham.

18 Minute Matzah Bake-Off

  • Kids (and parents) are invited into the kitchen to learn about and grind wheat, and make their own matzah.

Community Water Systems

  • This workshop allows kids to get their hands wet with a community 3D watershed model. They will gain a global view of water resources on Earth. Join Change is Simple educators to learn to become mindful participants in creating a healthier and more sustainable future.
