Event description

Description

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the Department of Comparative Literature, and the Hemispheric Institute on the Americas take great pleasure in hosting Dr. Jeffrey Coleman, Marquette University. Join us as he delineates the ways Spanish migration theatre elucidates a necropolitical hierarchy based on race. Focusing on the representation of Latin Americans, North African, and sub-Saharan Africans, his invigorating talk breaks away from the tendency to look at migration in terms of a general “other” to examine their disparate experiences in regard to their acceptance and integration into Spanish society, paying close attention to the racial specificities of each migrant group.
